Stephanie’s Seventh and Final Blog

Hi for the last time, wow that’s weird to say. This course has really flown by. I’ve learned a lot; excel, powerpoint, blogging, wikis, podcasts, etc. I will take what I have learned over these seven weeks with me when I become a teacher. I realize now that even though I will be teaching at the elementary level, my students will be very tech-savvy at a very young age. So I will have to keep myself up to date on all the advances that will occur over the next few years. I really enjoyed this class.

Hi again. In today’s class we finished our excel sheets. I think this was the longest assignment of the course because we had to measure our caloric intake and output over a two day period. It wasn’t that hard to do because I’ve been using excel for a few years now. It does get confusing with the different pages and graphs, but I think I did pretty well in documenting my daily activities. I can’t believe this is the last real class, time really flew by over these past six weeks. Ahh and now I have to study for this final!

Hi. In today’s class we started using microsoft excel. I remember using this a long time ago in middle school. It should be weird using the graphs and sheets again, but I think I’ll be okay. I remember the basics of the program. Anyway this recording my caloric input and output should be fun. I liked doing this type of stuff in health class. I’ll probably record today and tomorrow’s activities. It’s a little weird that we only have one more class after today….

Talk to you next week. :)

Hi again. Today we learned about making professional looking powerpoint presentations and internet safety. We watched a really cool youtube video about how fast technology is changing. It really made me think about what the future will be like with all this new technology that keeps coming in. Just a few years ago sites like myspace and facebook didn’t exist. It’s hard for me to imagine life without either of those “friend” sites, and even harder for me to think about what new and exciting sites my students will use in the future.

Anyway, I was happy to be working with powerpoint today. I’ve been using that program for years and I think I get better at it each time I use it. Depending on what grade I teach in the future, I would like to use powerpoint to teach, show the kids new things online, or make assignments using the program.

Hi again. Today we learned about images and web searching. I love editing my photos at home so I was happy that this was one of today’s topics. I’m used to using Mircosoft Photo Editor on my computer and just posting the pictures on facebook, but I’m interested in using other programs for editing; like Fireworks. I’ll probably download the free version and play around with it when I get home. I also learned that the internet is not the same as the world wide web today. Even though it’s four years or so away, I’m getting ideas about using certain cites for my future students. For example, I didn’t know that there was an Ask Jeeves for kids. Anyway, I’m starting to get used to the idea of kids using the internet/computer as young as 2 years old.

Today’s class was a lot easier than last week’s. The more I’m using livetext and edublogs, the more I’m understanding how to use them. Today we learned about wikis, I often use wikipedia, and about using Microsoft Word. I’m pretty confident in my Microsoft skills, since I’ve been using the program for years. Also, I’m beginning to understand how much technology all teachers, no matter what grade they teach, must use and teach to their students.

Stephanie’s First Reflection

August 28th, 2007 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Today was the first class for Ed Tech. We learned about a site called edublogs.org which is like a blog for teachers and teaching students. It was confusing going back and forth between the edublogs page and learning how to use LiveText at the same time. I’m so happy that I purchased the LiveText last night because it definitely saved me time during the class. This should get easier over the seven weeks especially when I can see the syllabus on the site. I’m pretty confident that I can get through this; I knew all about blogs and wikis when we were going over the hand outs…….if not I’ll call my younger sister, she seems to know way too much about websites.
